You can pull the spark plug to make sure you have a gap and nothing has shorted across the gap. When you pull the plug is it wet with gas? is your choke plate closing? drip a little fuel mixture directly into carb throat, if the mower starts and then spurters/stops check the jet on the carb, you maynot be getting any gas. is your spark plug connected?is your gas shut off vavle open? s.o.p. is to disconnect plug during shipping or moving. There will be a hole underneath it. Put your hand over that hole to make it airtight, and while holding your hand there, pull the string a few times. DOH! talk about a pig in a poke I assume it's a two stroke as you are adding oil to the gas if it's a 4 stroke engine - the oil does not go in the gas tank you may get to be the one to pay for the repair - if it can be repaired - so sorry all the best now you know - NEVER buy a used lawnmower

I assume it’s a two stroke as you are adding oil to the gas

if it’s a 4 stroke engine - the oil does not go in the gas tank
