How can I get my lawnmower up and running again after it stopped because I didn’t change the oil?

lawnmower
John asked:

I started the lawnmower up this spring and it had very little oil left in it. It ran for a few minutes, then I heard a bang bang bang and it just stopped. Now what do I do? Can I just add more oil and it will start again? It is a Toro 4-cycle 6.5 hp push mower.

The friction caused the engine to seize up. Needs a complete rebuild now. Simply adding oil now wont help at all. KNDChicago

The proper oil level in an engine serves two purposes. It lubricates moving parts and also cools those same parts. The bang bang you heard was likely the piston rings seizing to the cylinder wall which broke the connecting rod, piston rings or both. Save your oil for another engine. Unless you can do the labor yourself, it will cost you less to buy another engine than to rebuild this one-if it is even rebuildable. Hondu
