You should be able to get SAE 30 motor oil at any gas station, any grocery store, Walmart, Target, and 7-11.
You can buy a tool that goes in an electric drill that will sharpen the blades while still on the mower, although you have to raise it up and partly tip it to get at them. Without this disk shaped tool/guide, you have to remove the blade and file out the worst nicks and use a grind stone in a drill or a grinder to get a sharp edge. Try to keep the amount of metal removed the same on both ends and if you have to take a bunch off one end, balance the blade by taking more off the back of the other end - balancing it though the bolt hole in the middle. mike1942f

I use a file to sharpen the blade. Straight weight oil, should be available at gas stations, or oil change stores, auto parts stores. good luck. fordman

best results are with a large flat file
tilt it over muffler side down…
follow the angle of the blades edge with the file
(like knife sharpening)
a better way is to take the blade off, and clamp it down….
angle grinders will work but…you can screw it up pretty easy and make the blade REALLY unbalanced. loujitsu1978

When i sharpen my lawntractor blades, i remove them from the deck , one at a time. I follow the original blade area , using a handheld grinder ( a bench grinder will work as well) - i start on the face - make sure theres no dings in the blade, i straighten out the face first, then go to the angle cut, lightly with many passes at the same angle, contrary to belief, the blade doesnt have to be razor sharp( good for cutting off fingers when replacing) , just to a near sharp, slight flat end.
Id suggest if the blades are bent, or have too many deep nicks, replace them. If not confident sharpening, replace them and take them to a shop and have them sharpened for spares. Clean the blade bolts/nuts/surfaces, use a slight bit of neverseize on them, so they will come apart easier next time. Id suggest checking the deck minumum of once a season, more the better since it gets so much abuse. Maintenece is the key to longevity.
SAE 30 motor oil is availible at any auto parts store,Walmart, Kmart, ect - use a name brand type tho. Id suggest changing the motor oil at least twice a season, more in dusty/dirty situations ( same goes for aircleaner elements).

File is the best way to sharpen a lawnmower blade.
Lawnmower blade balancers are available from small engine repair shops.
One should be used each time you sharpe the blade to make sure it is balanced.
An unbalanced blade wil cause vibration in your lawnmower which could lead to costly repairs.
As others have mention, SAE30 oil is available at service stations, hardware stores, some grocery stores, etc.
Good luck John D M B

Most important- if the blade is on a gas mower and you are removing the blade or working on the underside of the mower.Remove the spark plug wire- to prevent the engine from “Kicking” and possibly hurting you.
To sharpen the blade, only the last 1/4 inch actually cuts. 30Wt oil can be bought at just about any store.
