How doI remove the top of my lawnmower toreplace the pull string?

lawnmower

It’s a Murray 3.5HP….20″ blade bought in 2007. The attachments holding the top down are flat…not screws which I’d be able to simply screw off! I asked this yesterday but am waiting to see if some1 can explain how to remove the top part.

Normally, the whole top engine cover comes off with 4 bolts located on the side of the engine. The pull start is up inside this cover. Be aware that it is a real pain in the rear to do if you have never done it before, and you will probably end up taking the whole cover to a Small Engine repair shop. Those flat things are rivets that hold the assembly into the cover.

This is a spring loaded goodie and will not be happy if you manage to remove the cover. You cannot replace it on your own you need to take it to a repairman.
