How fast can a self propelled lawnmower go?

lawnmower
sixxx asked:

I am going to get a trans axle off of a Honda, and going to put it on a little racer kart, how fast can they go?
Or are they all geared for torque and not speed. I have a 12hp Briggs.
Let me know what you think, thank you.

  1. RScott Says:

There are a lot of performance parts for your motor and 70 mph is not out of the question. RScott RScott

  2. TSW Says:

Do a belt drive instead.with a tightener pulley to get it going. If the 12 HP has an rpm of 2200 and the wheel is 6′ all the way around.you will get 6′ x 2200 with a 1 to 1 ratio pulley system.
But you also want some power.
I would do a 5 to 1 back ratio pulley being the bigger pulley The would give power / faster starts and a top speed of about 30 to 40 MPH

You can always change the pulley ratio to change top speed.

You will burn up a lawn mower trans axle at this speed. TSW
