Replace the blade at any sigh of damage: rust nick bend, etc. Make sure you balance the blade each time you sharpen it. Do this by hanging it on a nail, it should stay horisontal without tiping to either side.

I sharpened the blades on my old MTD mower every year for 22 yrs. without any problem. 4 times is nothing, you haven't even taken enough off of the blade to make it show.

Blades are cheap why risk it? Do you balance the blade when you sharpen? Balancing is important, an unbalanced
blade can destroy engine bearings and bend crankshafts.
You can purchase a balancer for less than $5.

When my Dad ran his mower shop we usually would recommend a new blade when the tip was reduced by about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch. This was for safety reasons, we made more money sharpening blades than selling new ones.
