How to connect rechargeable battery in lawnmower?

lawnmower
Cory asked:

I have a Black and Decker 24 Volt Rechargeable Lawn Mower. The 24 volt battery (composed of two 12 volt halves) went bad so I took it out and bought a replacement set. Of course they are not exactly the same and now I cannot seem to get it to charge. I have pictures of what a new mower, correctly connected looks like, and pictures of my lawnmower with the replacement batteries. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Okay. This is what you do. Place the batteries end to end. Look at the markings.
You will see a +ve (positive) and a -ve (negative) sign. The red wire from the mower will go to one battery marked with the +ve. You then go to the other battery and take the black from the machine’s ground wire to the terminal marked with the (-ve). Then the two free ends of each battery you couple together. The +ve to the -ve. That’s how you get the 24 volts to start the machine. Start the engine, and with avolt meter set to the 50 volts range measure the voltage. The voltage should shoul be about 26 volts. This is the charging voltage.
If the voltage is lower tan the 24 volts, then your charger is not charging and the charging circuite need looking at.
    Job and done.
