Is it safe to store my lawnmower gasoline in a closed container in a garage thats under a bedroom in a house?

lawnmower
The Journeyman asked:

My landlord rents a garage to a landscaper. He stores two plastic gas cans under our smaller bedroom. Its summer and we just had a baby. IS this safe? The gas dryer is about 20 feet away, and 40 ft away are four water heaters ad boilers. Is it Legal? (NYC)
Thanks

Babies are very vulnerable. You have doubts, which is why you posted this question. Go with your gut. It is better to be safe than sorry. smcmsam

It’s not safe. Check with City Hall. Ron

It might be a good idea to call the fire department and ask them. Maybe walking into the station, if the fire station is easy to get to. OldGringo

Contact your state fire marshal…you should be able to get him through your local law enforcement or fire district….honestly with the summer heat the gas cans will expand….gas vapors may leak into the room…with you having a gas dryer and water heaters etc in the same room…..I wouldn’t allow it…..but get the fire marshal to check it out……there may be more safety issues with the home itself.
