At the end of the season, we take ours to the Sears service center for a good maintenance and blade sharpening. They do all mowers not just their own. Joanne A. W

i am a certified john deere mechanic and the oil in your crankcase will not be a problem just change it first thing in the spring also if you can remove the batery from the machine for the winter that would be best rusty_corey

Change the oil now - why leave dirty oil in all winter. Take the battery out if storing it where temps get below freezing. And if you want, spray some storage fog into the spark plug hole and pull the cord a couple of times (with the battery disconnected and the plug out) db

Clear the gas from the tank (as you did, or by taking fuel line from bottom of tank and draining it), clean any grass from underneat the mower deck so it does not rust during storage, and unhook the positive terminal from the battery. You may still need to re-charge it, but this will help keep it in shape through the winter. Cover it and store it. The oil will be fine, but you will want to change it after the first time you start it for the new mowing season. horserider709
