My lawnmower blade needs to be removed. Why does the bolt adapter turn with each turn of the bolt?

Be very careful, and make sure the plug wire is off of the plug to make sure it doesn’t accidentally start while you are messing with the blade. Sounds like the adapter may be worn out or broken or a key sheared, a shop would probably be best. Bob B

the shaft key that holds the adapter on is broken allowing the adapter to turn on the shaft… by wiggling to back and forth you may be able to pull it off…
by the way the bolt that holds the blade on is left-hand thread… Sophie B

Could be that the blade adaptor has come down past the key or the key fell out. Get ahold of the crankshaft and hold it while you loosen the bolt. There was good avice in another post about removing the sparkplug wire while you are messing with the blade. renpen
