You may have to take it in to get the thing flushed out and it might need new seals.

I feel your pain… oh do I feel your pain (past experience). The key part here is did she try and start it after she put it in? If some gas got into the motor then… you could have some problems. However, if it was discovered before the motor was started you may be in luck. You need to siphon the gas out. Depending on how large of a tank it is you may be able to get away with using something like a turkey baster. If its a larger tank you will need to get a siphon from an automotive shop.

put a pan on the garage/patio floor. take the oil cap and gas cap off. turn the mower upside down on the pan and drain thuroughly. leave it upside down for awhile. put in fresh oil and gas in correct tanks/pans. start mower and let it run. it will smoke some, but just let it run.

in other words, drain it the best you can. let it air dry. refuel/oil and start.

First you must drain all the gas and oil out from the lawnmower. If it has a oil drain plug on the bottom take it out and let it drain for a day or two. If there is no drain plug turn the mower upside down for a day or so. When nothing more is draining refill it with oil run it for a few minutes until its hot and then drain and change the oil again and it should be ok. The gas wont hurt anything it will just loosen all the dirt and stuff in the crankcase and its best to try and get all of that stuff out.
    Good luck

Drain your gas tank and refill with fresh gas, it will smoke for a while then clear up. This happened to me one time.

there is an oil drain plug on the bottom of all mowers, take plug out let every thing drain out, pour some oil in fill plug to flush out old oil,put plug back in bottom and fill with fresh oil.if motor was run with gas in oil reservoir motor is probably shot.
