If it set for a long time with gas in it and then was started, the gas was porb. all gummed up and gummed up the carbuerator. Same thing happened to my rider after 2 years. Now I put a fuel satbilzer in every Fall after the last mow, or just drain the tank. If there is not needle is stuck. Needle is operated by float and gravity. When fuel level falls float falls opening needle vavle. If there is no gas in bowl remove carberator and then bowl. Take off float and pull out needle. Clean with B12 and reinstal in reverse and it should get gas and start. If gas is not the problem then check firing. Plug could be corroded or fouled which is easy to check by removing it. Get your husband to hold plug wire and attempt start. He'll know if its firing;^) If not check points. I would bet it is a stuck needle in carberator.
