What does it mean if you check the oil in a lawnmower and its black?

I checked the oil and saw it was black. can you guys help me im afraid that I burnt out my lawnmowers engine.

Changing a lawnmower motor to run on steam?

Sounds weird to me, but I received an e-mail from a friend who is converting a lawnmower motor to run on steam to turn a car alternator for power on his cabin. I am curious if anyone else has heard of this or knows anything about it. If so, do you have any stories to share and any reputable websites that explain the particulars of how to accomplish this without it rusting up?

Lawnmower wont start and is spitting out gas?
