What did I break on my lawnmower?
I bought a new battery and hooked it up backward (black cable to positive/ red to negative) to my riding lawnmower and tried to start it. It made a loud noise and now won’t attempt to start (after fixing the cables of course). Any clues on what I broke?
Fixed it. Apparently there is a dummy fuse between the battery and the rest of the important stuff to keep idiots from messing anything up if they hook it up backwards. It was just a 50 cent 20 amp fuse that blew and needed replaced.

yea if you don’t know how to replace the starter yourself (which it isn’t that hard at all if your a little handy with tools) I’d look for a small engine repair shop, not one of the major names who are way over priced

Loud noise? Could have blown the battery. Check it before you get a new starter. A voltmeter should read a little over 12 volts for a 12 volt battery.
