WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BUYING A USED LAWNMOWER?

lawnmower
NANCYJ asked:

I’m a single mom here in NH looking to buy a used lawnmower in CRAIGSLIST , what do I need to look for when buying something like that please? Electric, gas or whatever they use to run? I have a very small flat yard and I never own or used one myself before.

What will be in my best advantage I mean?
Merci beaucoup mes amis!

I think for you with a very small lawn, an electric would probably be the best choice. They are quiet, lite weight and easy to use. There are fewer parts to break so buying a used electric may be a wiser purchase. As far as brands go I can’t recommend any specific brand without knowing which is available. Good luck to you and below are some links to help you. One link is to a forum where you could ask this same question. ralf

It’s difficult to give you an exact answer, if the yard is very small then a push mower would be an ideal choice, no pollution, cheap to buy, cheap to own, plus it’s great exercise.

Electric mowers really don’t have a great deal of power, so if you went with this option it would be a good idea to keep in mind that it will require more frequent mowing. Although as already stated they are cheap to run with less breakdowns.

Gas or petrol powered machines might be the best choice if the lawn is thick, spongy or is mowed infrequently.

I would be asking myself how long I would be planning on owning and using it. If you’re planning to have it for a long time then the extra dollars are well spent to buy a better machine for better reliability and cheaper repair costs.

There are links below for an overview of push mowers, plus a forum discussion about exactly the same topic. Andrew
