What is the difference between auto 10w30 and lawnmower 10w30 and which is better in a 4-cycle lawnmower?

lawnmower
tlh2108 asked:

I use a lawnmower with a 4-cycle engine; it is less than 10 years old. I would like to know if I should only use 10w30 specified as lawnmower oil or if I can use regular 10w30. Thanks

  1. Pro Says:

Automotive 10w 30 has more cleaning agents and should not be used for lawn mower Pro

  2. Freddie Says:

10w30 lawnmower oil is identical to regular 10w30 oil. It’s only called lawnmower oil so they can justify a higher price Freddie

The mower oil has higher levels of zinc and phosphorous in it to reduce engine wear. The levels have been reduced in auto engine oil over the years because they are somewhat harmful to catalytic converters. Most all good quality engine oil will work just fine in your mower. Change it regularly and keep the level correct and your mower should last a long time. renpen
