I have a Poulan push lawnmower with a briggs & stratton 500 series engine 158 cc. What oil type should I use? I have been looking but gotten different answers. Please help.

The oil that Briggs and Stratton sells with their name on it is a straight 30 weight so your favorite brand of 30W would work just fine. I use 10W-30 in my machines since that is what I buy for my car and have had no problems whatever.
When it comes to small engines there are a lot of options. Realistically it doesn’t matter what type of oil you use in the lawnmower as long as you change it every year. It also depends on when you will be using the lawnmower and what temperatures its going to be subjected to. I always use the standard 30w if the machine isn’t going to be used in any extreme temperature changes (ie.. cold or hot). If its going to be used throughout the year going into fall and winter, I would reccomend 10W30. I hope this helps you out. It really comes down to just performing the maintenance every year and the mower will last you a long-time.
