2 things can cause this. One is that the grass is wet. The other thing is that discharge chute in plugged. Or the grass is wet and clogging the discharge chute. To clear the discharge chute make sure the engine is off before reaching in there or you will loose some fingers.

1 or 2
Brand new eh? does it have a bag attached? you didn't say.
If so is the bag filling up? if it is, you need to dump it as soon as it gets a little heavy, I have to dump mine (sometimes) 20 times or more and I have a small lawn.
If not filling up properly, remove it and check the opening where the grass is discharged (I don't have to tell you to make sure it's not running right?) Look to see if the plug is installed. Some mowers are capable of mulching and or bagging (mine is). when you mulch there should be a plastic plug installed, when bagging remove this plug.
Other wise make sure the grass is dry when you mow.

Maybe its time to get out your rake? i remember when everyone would rake after mowing. ever notice those wet grass clumps when they dry? makes very unsightly hay color spots all over your lawn.

If your grass is high, it has to go someplace when you mow it. If you are not bagging it or mulching, you get the clumps of grass. It won't matter if you set the mower higher. The grass still has to go somewhere.

Set your mower for 2-1/2 or 3 inches cutting height of grass.

Do not cut grass when it is wet.

Same thing happens to me, but I'm lazy and leave it. It's just because I wait 2-3 weeks to cut mine and it gets high (in the summer). It eventually blows away or gets rained away, but I guess it depends on the size of the piles. I just don't have the Hank Hill mentality (nor the time) to care for my lawn the way some folks do. The only annoying thing about the clumps is if you mow over them it sometimes clogs the blades and you have to restart the mower.

Are you using a bag or mulching machine?? With a bag mower it could be your grass is too wet or too long.
With a mulcher the same thing or your blade could be dull?? It might not look good but the grass left on is good for the grass..maybe just rake it around evenly or else you may have to go over it twice.. also don't walk behind too fast when mowing sometimes just slowing your pace will help..

Is the grass wet? Wet grass will stick to the underside of the deck, then fall off in clumps. Or, if you are running a bagger, is the bag getting too full before you dump it?

Maybe it's because you need either the bag on the back or the attachment that spews the clippings over the lawn as you go. Or, maybe you're letting the bag get too full before emptying it??

How often are you cutting the grass? If the grass it too high, it will clump when mowed. Cut it more often, or set the mower to a higher wheel setting.
