Our English sounds about the same to a foreigner -clatter, clatter, clatter. So, in conversational Spanish, you would just have to live with them and give yourself at least 6 months 'to get along pretty well.' Simply ask them to turn off the lawnmower or leaf blower and ask them the question again. It should sound better that way.
