    kohler is a major walker mower engine ( riding mower ) they hold up pretty well but briggs and straton for any push mower i use them for my company every day and i rarely take it in for service hope this helps seth

    Kohler . . . just looking at two comparible engines should be enough to convince you; besides, Kohler has always been commercial/industrial grade, Briggs & Stratton has always been consumer grade.

    All lawn mower engines are good. The service you get from them depends on how well you take care of them, and the servicing and maintenance they get.
    I have a 2 cylinder Kohler in my junk pile, because the owner ran it without checking the oil! Likewise the Briggs and the Tecumseh–no maintenance.
    Briggs engines, and Tecumseh engines, too, are very good. They have been used for many years in lawn equipment, and with maintenancve, they are as good as any others! James H
