Assuming that the blade is in good shape the height is set correctly I would think that the engine is running with a lean fuel mixture. This will cause it to have a loss of power. The lean mixture could be caused by a dirty carburetor or an air leak between the carburetor and the engine.

One of two possibilities. It could be that the motor was damaged by running low on oil and has lost compression, and thereby horsepower.

Or.. It could be that the governor linkage has fallen off so that when the engine is put under load it is unable to react and stalls out. I would check the governor linkage

Edit >>> On the governor issue. It could also be that the governor has fallen apart inside the block itself. When its running, reach down and move the governor by hand. It should have some resistance which will change with the engine RPM. If its damaged it will flop loosely with no change in tension with RPM change.

Easy

Density

Thicker grass is more dense than the lower stuff. So, the cheap way they make mowers today it can't handle the load. Mowers have only one speed.....'so-so'......you can't allow the grass to get to high or the wimpy mowers can't handle it.
