will a bad primer bulb on my Murray lawnmower cause it to not start?

lawnmower
Your Mom asked:

I have been busting my butt trying to get my lawnmower running. It will not start. I can pour fuel down into the carb and it will fire for a few seconds and then die. I have checked the plug, fuel, air filter, the kill lever, carb….
I just noticed that the primer bulb has a pretty good size tear in it. Will this cause my mower not to start? Like maybe, it loses prime or something?

Thanks for the help!

could lose prime or cause a vapor lock, over flooding the engine.

Based on what you have checked I would suspect the primer bulb is bad. Time for repair shop unless you are handy with lawn mowers. Try this it might help you get it started if you NEED to cut the grass…….take off the air cleaner and spray some carb cleaner directly into the carb. This has worked for me in a pinch, but repair shop was the Intimate fix.

yep, you can buy a new one for a dollar or 2. if it leaks it will suck air.

I recently loaded my mower into the back of my car. Drove down to Ace Hardware. The guy there installed a new primer bulb in minutes! (yes, I’m a female!) think the bulb cost $1.83. It might be worth a try!! :)
